The Workshop
Looking to take your creative expression to the next level? Creative Vision Photo Workshops are designed to challenge you to reach new heights with your nature photography. Join Creative Vision instructors Richard Bernabe and Ian Plant on an intensive, multi-day field and classroom instructional workshop that will help you create photographs you've always dreamed of making.

The Destination
Nestled along the glacier-fed waters of Crescent Lake in the heart of the Chigmit Mountains, Redoubt Mountain Lodge will be our home for a week of amazing photography. Named for the 10,197-foot Redoubt Volcano a mere 8 miles away, Redoubt Mountain Lodge is the only lodge and privately owned property within a 25-mile radius, offering a truly remote Alaskan experience.

During early August, participants can expect to photograph active brown bears at point-blank range as they chase and feed on the thousands of brilliantly colored sockeye salmon schooling in the shallow pools along the lake’s shoreline. There will be numerous bears catching salmon, confronting and interacting with other rival bears, and educating their young on how to fish.

There are also scores of bald eagles, swans, kingfishers, mergansers, harlequins, pipers and other bird species to photograph near the lodge.

To complement the plentiful wildlife, August in Lake Clark National Park provides colorful hillsides of fireweed and wildflowers in full bloom as well as wild blueberry patches amid towering glacier-capped mountains.

Curriculum
Richard and Ian will teach a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, including:

• Working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset;
• The fundamentals of powerful compositions;
• Advanced techniques for capturing powerful wildlife images; and
• Abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs.

We’ll also teach you a number of professional “digital darkroom” secrets as well. Our hands-on intensive seminars—held during the middle of the day when the light is not conducive for photography—will teach you the fundamentals of image processing, and allow you to master important techniques including:

• Working with adjustment layers;
• Layer masking and image blending techniques;
• Making difficult selections;
• Color management; and
• Special effects techniques used for artistic expression.

In addition, we'll explore a number of artistic philosophies that will help you find your own personal vision.
